My new transportation solution has arrived.

Now, to finish up the insurance requirements, and I’m off. :D

So, as much fun as a bunch of rain is, I’m going to have to admit that I’ve had my fill.  Our front yard is a lake (due to the fact that it sorely needs to be re-graded), our cracked shell of a pool has several feet of water in it (that’s a whole other story that I’ll get into shortly), and my recently cleaned gutters have again been pushed to overflowing.

Besides, the sooner the rain stops, the sooner I get my plane. :D

A recent commenter on this blog remarked that, at first glance, this blog appeared to be written by a woman.  This is a situation I’ve actually found myself in before, numerous times in life, where women seem to be unable to see me as anything but just another girl.

So, I put the question to my regular readers (the ones I have chased away).  Do I write like a 30 year old woman?  Is all the baby stuff too much?  Is my estrogen showing?

Can someone figure out why I snapped this photo while standing in line at a Varsity outside of Atlanta?

Happy Mother’s Day, all you mothers out there.

L.C. hit up her first Derby Party, and managed to refrain from knocking back more than a few mint julips.

We now have a child who sleeps through the night.  Or, at least for 6-7 hours, which is close enough…

This makes all of the trips to Fussytown worth it.

Gotta love it when the wedding party stops for a case of Bud Light on the way to the reception.

The Redhead and I had a good time, and didn’t fret about leaving our little one for the first time (too much).

Does this look like a group of shady dudes, or what?  (The one with his tux jacket wide open is the groom)

Well, we’ve been through seven weeks of parenting so far, and both sides seem to be learning to live with each other. We’re starting to learn her signals, so we can tell (usually) when she wants her diaper changed before she starts howling, and she’s learned to trust that we will change said diaper, wipe her ass, and feed her warm milk on demand. Not a bad deal for her, I think.

One other thing that we’ve learned is that we can set our clocks by our daughter’s evening fussy periods (9:15pm on the dot). It only seems to last about two hours at the most, but it can be a very trying time for the entire family. So far, the only consistent soothing method we’ve found is the walk and sway method, which can usually, but not always, keep her calm. What makes it more difficult is how she segues between causes of distress without any break in the crying. Change her wet diaper? She’s immediately upset about gas. Burp her? She’s immediately hungry. Feed her? She’s now got another wet diaper. (During fussy time, she goes through as many diapers in an hour as she does the rest of the day.)

However, on the flip side, L.C. has started sleeping longer at night. Immediately following fussy time two of the last three nights, she slept for six hours straight. Last night she slept for four, and I’m convinced that the shorter sleep period was because of her messed up evening routine. The Redhead and I left L.C. in the care of her ecstatic grandmother last night, and again today, since my brother M was getting married and I was in the wedding. (Damn, I look good in a tux.) It marked our first time leaving the baby completely in the care of someone else, and we were both pretty okay with it all.

Anyhow, there have been trials and tribulations aplenty over the last seven weeks, but I have to be grateful for a beautiful, healthy and (mostly) happy baby girl, and a beautiful, healthy and happy wife.

I couldn’t be happier with life these days…
