The L.C. is 7 months old (as of the 28th).

She certainly is keeping everyone on their toes.

Yeah, that’s right, fuck Ike in his hurricane eye-hole.
Winds gusting to 75 miles per hour have caused extremely widespread power outages (at least 75% of the 1 million+ residents of the metro area), which have caused us to seek refuge at my father’s farm (while he’s out of town, more on that later). You see, my father’s ace-in-the-hole is a generator tied to underground propane tanks. SCORE.
I mean, I know people have raised children for millenia without the benefit of electricity but, damnit, it’s a lot easier with a microwave and a bottle warmer. Besides, hot water rocks.
As for my father, well…he has an extensive history of leaving town just prior to natural disasters. In 1993, he left me and my three brothers with my grandmother on the farm and took my mom to Hawaii. The day they left, our pipes froze and broke, removing both our water and telephone service. That night, we got 19 inches of snow and were blocked in. Needless to say, it was an interesting week…
Other than the complete lack of power and the Lord Of The Flies reenactments occuring at those few gas stations, grocery stores and Starbucks blessed with that magical spark, not much to report from here.
In other news…Sarah Palin scares the living shit out of me. Seriously. The concept that this woman could be a heartbeat away from being our Commander In Chief honestly keeps me awake at night.

Little Chimpette had her first blood-drawing injury a couple of nights ago, caused by pulling herself up, slipping, falling, and trying to catch herself by biting the bench she had pulled up on. Ouchie. Little drops of blood are now soaked into the shoulder of my t-shirt.
Little girl is definitely going to have to work on her balance.
In other news, we had to clear out our pantry last week because of a moth infestation. L.C. just LOVED having all of the plastic bins full of stuff to play with, and even had the sense to look guilty when we caught her pulling stuff out.

As I was dressing for work today, for the only day in a three week period where I have a work flight, my wife woke up and informed me that she was sick. Not that there’s anything I can do to fix it, but it’s a bummer she’s ill the one day this month that I won’t be home all day.
It’s amazing how things coincide like that. Still, I remain hopeful that the little one will give her an easy morning, and I should be home early in the day.

The highlight of my weekend was hearing my 87 year old grandmother refer to George W. Bush as “that son of a bitch.”

Little girl continues to keep us occupied in the realm of redecorating. All of our decorations have to be quickly shifted into nouvou-childproof, as the little one is seriously on the move. She followed me around the first floor yesterday (crawling) while I was working on things, and has already shown interest in tools, the pantry, the dishwasher and anything breakable.
Yesterday, I spent a pleasant hour making baby food. Not everyone’s cup of tea, I know, but I enjoy cooking, I enjoy cooking for my family, and I enjoy trying new things. So, on top of the peaches we made a few weeks ago, we now have some squash, peas, and a lot of sweet potatoes.
Not much else to report, really.

I awoke yesterday morning semi-refreshed and in good spirit, with light activities planned for the day and breakfast on my mind. I was happy, until I checked my iPhone and found the messages from my boss, wondering where I was and was I okay?
You see, due to a dumbass mistake on my part, I was blissfully unaware that a flight had been added to our schedule for yesterday morning and, by the time I got the messages, they were long gone. They went without me, and I had the distinctly embarassing experience of explaining what happened to my boss, as well as his passenger (the CEO of the company).
Thankfully, all was taken in stride with good humor and, despite threats of having me clean the entire 3600 square foot hangar floor with a toothbrush, was mostly a non-event. That’s what you get for having a steller work record to date, I guess…

I never win these things, but I won a caption contest over at The Blue Sloth. I’m told my prize is a miniature sculpture by the Blue Sloth himself, which is exciting beyond measure. I actually wanted to win this one…

So, we learned two days ago that the bassinet we had our daughter sleeping in for the first four months of her life has been recalled after a couple of (seperate) infant deaths.
Of course the first thought that crossed my mind was, “Thank God it wasn’t our daughter.”
It’s just another example of how everything changes when you have a child. I never used to pay any attention to recalls before…

Well, busy with the child, of course.
Busy around the house, getting things childproofed, as our sixth month old daughter is crawling, and is about a week away from cruising. And teething. WOOOOOOO.
Busy in the yard, filling in our cracked, empty pool, removing old trees that threaten to fall on houses, getting the back yard graded and seeded before the end of fall…
Not that busy at work, actually, which is why you don’t hear from me that much any more. I normally blog while I wait for passengers (in these post-IT days), but we haven’t been flying that much this summer.
I know, I know, I just kind of fell off the face of the…well…blog.
Where the hell have YOU been?
